About Us

Our Story

My Social Edge started in the Summer of 2017 to help meet the needs of kids in the Bay Area! Parents in our community were asking for their children to learn critical social and emotional skills that were not being taught in schools.

Our founder, Dr. Amita Roy Shah, had the background and expertise to do something about this! She was a former teacher for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and a curriculum designer for Learning Without Tears (LWT). She received her master’s in Education from Pepperdine University and her doctorate in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University. Since 2011, she has been a senior lecturer in the Department of Child and Adolescent Development at San Jose State University.

Amita decided to create an innovative curriculum that was based on the latest research in emotional intelligence, neuroscience, and mindfulness-based practices. She also wanted the curriculum to be interactive, fun, and engaging for kids! These ideas were piloted in the summer of 2017 with a small group of neighborhood kids. It then became a formal program that was offered through the City of Dublin, California in 2018. From these initial classes, we finalized and created our first workbook Brain-Based EQ for Kids! on Amazon.

Today, it has become an innovative, experiential, hands-on class being offered all around the world! So far, we have had students from across the United States, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, India, Nigeria, Egypt, Brazil, and Australia!
